I'm back

I keep doing this thing where I will blog for a month and then stop for about 3 or 4 months. I'm going to try and get back into it though! I promise I'll be better..... I'm actually working on some new projects. I decided to start crafting and I got really into the idea of making my own pet stuff! Collars and clothes and beds, oh my! I started with collars and I'm going to stay on that for awhile and then I thought I would venture into the harder stuff! I don't have any pictures yet, but when I do I will post them on my site. Hopefully by New Years I will have an etsy store going (crossing fingers). Anyway, I'm off to bed. Its late.....

Wag-A-Long Wednesday

Well...It was kind of a bust today! I was excited to get both of the dogs out to the local dog park, but was rudely interrupted by a traffic cop. I had just pulled out of my apartment parking lot and was taking to my husband (on a hands free set by the way) and this cop pulls me over a couple of blocks down the street, I looked at my speedometer and it said I was going only 32 in a 35..so what the hell cop?! I guess I didn't realize I was in a school zone which is between 2pm-3:30pm. (the cop pulled me over at 2:10) I tried to plead my case, but he didn't budge. I will fight it though because I don't believe the lights were flashing when I pulled into the zone, and....he pulled me over like 2 blocks after the school zone ended. Thankfully he didn't pull me over for being on my phone, I guess you can't even be on a hands free set in a school zone. (bs). Anyway, so after I drove away I started back for the park and Lupin our new pup decided to he really had to pee and went in the car!!!! AHHH!!! Good thing I have a doggie seat cover. We ended up turning around and going home. I cleaned the car, took the dogs on a quick walk and then gave them a bath when we got home.....so it was a pretty lame Wednesday. boo....

Wag-A-Long Wednesdays

So this week Tonks and I (Lupin can't come out yet because he's too skinny, and we have to treat him like a new puppy until he's a little thicker...people really suck sometimes). Anyway, we went to the lake this week and had a fabulous time. We went to Lady Bird Lake in Austin and walked around some beautiful trails. Tonks got to play a little in the water and meet some new dogs. I think this is one of my favorite places in Austin so far. There is an off leash and leashed area, I prefer to keep Tonks on a leash at this park because there is a road near by and she's not very good with the listening thing.

Happy Easter

So the Mister and I have been looking for a new dog for about a month now. Well, yesterday we found him! We looked at a couple of different dogs yesterday and this one just stood out. His name was Luke, we renamed him Lupin after the werewolf teacher from Harry Potter. So now we have Lupin and Tonks (They were lovers in Harry Potter). Lupin is a Redtick Coonhound. He was most likely neglected by his previous owners because he is 20lbs underweight and his ears are all scarred from flies eating at them. He is super sweet and already showing us how smart he is. So, we gave a dog a home for Easter and hopefully he turns out to be a great new addition to our family....say hi to Lupin!

Oh Tonks

So, I went to get a second opinion on Tonks today. I have to say this vet was 10x better than the other one we went to. If you live in Austin go to South Park Veterinary Hospital and see Dr. Singleton. He is probably the best vet I've ever seen..Unfortunately, he didn't have the best news about Tonks. She has elbow displaysia in both legs. So basically she's going to be dealing with arthritis for the rest of her life. She's only one :-( The vet was very thorough on everything from meds, treatments, and her quality of life...meaning we can keep her on bed rest for the rest of her life, or let he be a dog and just give her some meds on bad days.

I think Jon and I decided well take it day by day. Get her some supplements for joints, keep some meds on hand for bad days, and just let Tonks be Tonks..we'll just bring it down a notch. Like not too many trips to the dog park and shorter walks, but the doctor said don't cut out exercise all together because it does help keep her joints from getting stiff.

So, we got a long road ahead of us, but we're going to keep our dog as happy as we can...We're thinking of doing acupuncture as well..if anyone has tried it on a pet please let me know how it went!

Wag-A-Long Wednesday

I know its Thursday, but I forgot to post yesterday! Oops...anyway, it was another boring Wednesday at the DeMitchell house. Unfortunately Tonks is still not doing so great. She was doing better last week so the vet decided to take her off the anti-inflammatory drugs because Tonks stopped eating. After she stopped taking those her limp came back. I'm going to take her to another vet tomorrow to get a second opinion about her leg. I asked the other vet to do an x-ray twice and both times they told me to take Tonks home and come back next week. I kind of feel they're just liking that I have to keep paying vet visit fees every time I come in. So we're going to a new vet and this time I won't leave without an x-ray. So, yeah, we did a whole lot of nothing again. Sat around, ate pizza, cuddled with the hubby and the dog and watched some Buffy. I'll leave you with a picture of my smiling dog.

Wag-A-Long Wednesdays

So I was so excited to start a new post called Wag-A-Long Wednesday. I want the post to be about Tonks and me exploring all the doggie places in Austin! parks, lakes, cafes, pet stores. I was going to start it this week, but Tonks got injured and she's on strict bed rest. She goes in for an x-ray on Friday. Hopefully its nothing too serious.
So because of Tonks having to stay home, this weeks wag-a-long wednesday is going to be here at our house!
Tonks and I just chilled, watched Buffy the Vampire Slayer on Nexflix, I painted my nails and Tonks relaxed and got belly rubs!

No Kill Day

The Austin City Council will officially proclaim March 11th "No Kill Day" in Austin, Texas!

I love that I live in a city that's working hard to make it 100% no kill. I think every animal deserves a chance at a happy life. So celebrate No Kill Day with your furry family members on March 11th.

I'm coming back....again

Ok, so I've been having trouble keeping up with my blog, and I think I'm back for good! My husband and I decided we're going to start getting our act together now that we're in Austin and start working on our dream of owning a house and then starting up a pet supply store. I'm going to start taking a sewing class so I can learn how to make some fun doggy stuff, so look for me on Etsy soon! (hopefully). Well thats it for now, but hopefully their will be more posts about all the doggy stuff to do in Austin! Maybe I'll post some people stuff as well....this town in full of awesome activities.

Christmas 2011

Well...It was a very interesting Christmas!! My husband got a speeding ticket and my brother in law got his wallet stolen on Christmas Eve..boo cops and thieves! My sister accidentally dropped my husbands phone after taking a picture of me and my husband. Luckily it didn't crack the screen, but the outside of the phone is pretty beat up. Other than that it was nice being with family and especially having our pup in our lives! We sure did miss Jack though. He seemed to enjoy Christmas more than Tonks. But we were able to get some great pictures of Tonks in front of my parents Christmas Tree.

MIA

My husband and I have been busy packing and moving for the past month. We're finally all moved in to our new home. We'll be living with my mother in law for three months and then off to Austin, TX. I can't wait for this move. I'm a little scared, but very excited as well. I just hope our dogs don't mind the change! Tonks was pretty nervous during our move to my mother in laws home, but I think she's doing good now.

Gus Gus

My friends dog is probably one of the cutest big dogs I have ever seen (besides Tonks..of course)! This is Gus Gus-We think he's a Collie, Airdale mix. Or...Collie, Irish Wolfhound..He's pretty big. He's just a pup and look how huge he is! Unfortunately, my friend Taryn lives all the way in Colorado, so I haven't been able to meet him yet. Hopefully, I'll be able to visit both of them soon! Enjoy...

Leash Locket

I can't wait to try this out! It seems pretty cool. Its a leash that hooks to your dog when not in use. A friend of mine is helping this get launched. They went to The Super Zoo in Vegas (jealous) Its a huge pet supply expo and I guess they did amazing! I need to get one! I think this would be perfect when we go to the dog park! One less thing to have to carry around the park!

Tonks and Bees

Tonks got stung by a bee..AGAIN! This is her second time getting stung in one month. Thankfully, she's not allergic to bees. We found out the first time. I rushed her to the vet because she started to act very lethargic. Once we got there she was her spunky self again!! The first time she got stung on her foot when we walked through a little group of bees that we didn't notice. This time she got stung in the eye. Her and Maggie thought they found a fun bug to chase and didn't realize it was a bee until it was too late! Tonks got the sting and Maggie got away just in time! Her right eye is a little swollen, but she seems to be in good spirits. A little itchy, but still acting like a puppy!

Tonks is 5 1/2 Months

Tonks is now 5 1/2 months and weighs 45lbs. She has lost most of her puppy teeth and is turning into a beautiful young lady!

Tonks likes: Pulling Maggie's tail, playing with her Pit bull friend Lola, chasing butterflies, cuddling on the couch, and ripping paper to shreds
Tonks dislikes: The hose, the gardener, getting picked on by the dogs at the dog park, when mom and dad go to work.
