Dog Food Facts-pt 1-Corn Gluten Meal

If you are feeding your pets a basic product (i.e Pedigree, Beneful, or Purina), there is an ingredient called Corn Gluten Meal-"it is a by-product of corn through the wet milling process. Corn gluten is added to absorb the toxins that may be in the rendered parts when added to the cooking process. Corn is the #3 cause of allergies in dogs. Dogs do not digest corn well and would not eat corn in the wild. Corn gluten is a cheap source of protein and is used by many companies as a filler."
This filler is also used as a herbicide to kill crab grass and other weeds in peoples gardens.
Is this filler potentially dangerous to your pet? I'm not sure, but I do know that it causes pets to have allergies, loose stools, gas and obesity.  I learned that there is no good reason to use Corn Gluten Meal and other fillers except to make your dog food less expensive.
So the next time you picking up your pooches Dog Chow, look at the ingredient list. If you see Corn, Corn Meal, Corn Gluten Meal you might want to think about putting that bag back and moving on to something else.

Here are some of my favorites:
*Wellness
*Avo-Derm
*Solid Gold
*Merrick

Each of these foods are made with human grade ingredients an NO fillers.

cookies and pooches

Pawsitiviely Gourmet

So I was at work the other day and someone made a comment on my bakery dog cookies. they said they thought it was funny that people give their dogs treats that look like cupcakes or some kind of holiday design...its not like the dog knows what it is!! But I think different!!! So what if the dog doesn't know its a dog biscuit shaped like a jack-o-lantern. The point is that you know what it is, and you're dog will feel special because you're giving it something that will make you happy..So celebrate the holiday seasons coming up..if its halloween, thanksgiving or christmas..go out there and get your pooch a special treat!
